Last weekend we went out to Superstition Mountain area (near El Centro, see map below) for some more off roading fun. The usual suspects with a couple of people from the City of Temecula (where my uncle works). The weather was perfect, with almost no wind.

The 2004 (and other years as well) have a peculiar fog light set up. The fog lights automatically shut off when you click your high beams on. For on-road operation this is acceptable, but off road it is nice to have the high beams on for distance and the fog lights on for close up lighting.

For Glamis they require that any vehicles going into the dunes have a buggy whip. When your at the bottom of the dunes it can be near impossible for oncoming traffic to see you if you didn’t have one of the buggy whips. At night you need to have one that has a light on top. Unfortunately jeeps don’t come standard with a place to attach your buggy whip.

We headed out for the last part of Christmas week and the New Years weekend to try our luck on the sand dunes of Glamis. We had never done any extensive sand dune trips in the jeep and were unsure of how we’d fare.
