The 2004 (and other years as well) have a peculiar fog light set up. The fog lights automatically shut off when you click your high beams on. For on-road operation this is acceptable, but off road it is nice to have the high beams on for distance and the fog lights on for close up lighting.

 

I found a simple modification online that will allow you to run the fog lights completely independent of the driving lights. This modification only takes a couple of minutes and the best thing, it’s completely free :)

Locate the box that houses the relays. It’s located to the outside of the air intake box.

There is a chart on the lid of the box that tells you which of the relays is for the fog lights.

You will take the post that is upper left hand in this picture (it’s labeled 1 on the relay) and bend the post over as shown in the picture below. Now you will be able to control the fog lights by the switch on the control bar at the steering wheel. We’ll be looking to replace the standard fog lights with some brighter KC’s and also adding lights to the windshield brackets for off road use. Once these are done we’ll be set for off road lighting and ready for night runs :)
