Location: East of Hwy 178 and north of Ballarat

Difficulty: Moderate. This trail crosses an alluvial fan and then winds its way up a major canyon which is highly susceptible to erosion. Conditions drastically worsen after each new flash flood. Stay out if rain is predicted.

Location: East of Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park

Difficulty: Difficult. Although a little rocky in places, the first part of the trip to Inyo Mine is easy and suitable for just about any SUV. The last portion of the trip to Echo Pass is mostly moderate but has one difficult spot. Stock SUV’s should have very high ground clearance and good articulation. Even then, a winch or tow strap may be needed for this one section. Vehicles with big tires and differential lockers should have no problem.

Location: Directly west of Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park

Difficulty: Moderate. Starts easy then drops into rocky wash. If you are the first vehicle in after a heavy rain, you may have to blaze your own trail and condictions could be difficult. The most challenging section is at the end of the Cottonwood Canyon. Do not drive this trail if rain is forecast.
